A MOST EGGCELLENT MORNING.

Checked my e-mail Friday night, Marcelle (whose was having the hen party), had left directions to the place the hen Party was to be held. She needed to send the details as the property where the party was to take place, was a new build and wouldn't show on the sat- nav.

As Math pulled up outside the property , I wondered what the morning may hold. Math had to hoist me from his new toy, (vehicle), forgot to mention his new vehicle . Math is now a nice man with a white van!!!!

I shouldn't take the mick, he has to carry around so many tools and equipment now, it is a necessity. We have put Nat on the insurance, so it will be used a great deal for transporting items to and fro from his cafe/bar. Also its ideal when we are down at the coast and the dogs decide to have a swim. (It will keep the car free from that awful wet doggy smell - yuck!).

I digress, I rang the doorbell and the door was opened by a tall dark-haired man who I was later to learn was Gary, Marcelle's partner. I was escorted through the house by Gary to the garden. There, sat around a patio table was Marcelle, next to her another couple, who told me they had travelled from Linconshire for the party. Shortly after we were joined by two more women who I believe were also from Linconshire. Apparently coming to Marcelle's in Nottinghamshire was the nearest party they could find on the net.
Gary, served us tea and coffee, whilst Marcelle told us about her hens, Martha & Maize. She had owned them for four months. Their coop was an 'Omlet eglu', which we then took to bits and then washed and hosed it down. (It was fun honest). The group talked about a variety of subjects related to hens and Omlets coops and all of them were thinking of buying the cube ( the larger of the coops). In fact the couple had ordered theirs but it wouldn't be with them until late August. I held Martha, (see pics), I was surprised at how soft her feathers were.

The morning was finished of with cream teas (made by Gary and of course the eggs from the hens), They were so delicious that I didn't get chance to take a photo, before we had scoffed them...

It was an enjoyable morning, and good to see folks with a normal sized garden managing to care for their free range hens. Holding Martha was the highlight for me. I think reading everything I could on the web I had already learned most of what we were told. Still, its good to see it in practice.
I suppose what it also made me realise, is that the cube, because its on wheels and considerably high up, would be more covenant for my mobility issues. However, the eglu is vastly cheaper, will hold up to 4 hens, (I only want to start with 2), and comes with hens included ready to go, food the lot!
Math said he will help me to clean the eglu, So I think until we are totally sure its for us, it is the best choice. Far better to take small steps , than throw huge amounts of money at a project, unsure of how you will manage.

I do hope I haven't bored you to death, if hens aren't your thing. Those of you who only came back cos you thought I was having a morning of drink/rock & roll, and goodness knows what else, shame on you!!!!

Well must dash, its my pre ops at the hospital tomorrow. (I have to be there for eight in the morning). So the task of de-fuzzing bits and plucking others needs to be taken in hand, I know they won't be looking at whether my eyebrows are perfectly groomed or not, but it sure makes me feel better...
Finally to end my post, great news, mum is coming home tomorrow at 2 in the afternoon. So as soon as I've finished at the hospital, that will be my first port of call.......

FRIDAY 55 FLASH FICTION, "IF I COULD BE "

Chorus's of "man overboard" rang through my ears.
I slipped deep into the sea.

Salty fluid filling my lungs, my legs fusing as one.
Gentle hands grooming , guiding me.

Seashells adorn my hair, flipping my once feet into the air.
Breathing bubbles, suddenly I feel free.

Neptune is going to be the man for me...

Mermaids(and mermen), and all of their classes(oceanids, nereids, sea nymphs, sirens, etc) are the children of Neptune, Oannes, or Poseidon, who live at the bottom of the sea in great hidden cities or palaces.
They were originally created during the time of Atlantis when human, alien, or animal DNA were combined. Not all are beautiful or even human-like and some are downright destructive.

While some live in the oceans and seas of outer earth, they are much more common in middle and inner earth where they are more generally accepted.

Fact or fiction?
As a child I often dreamt of being a mermaid when I grew up. Guess I haven't grown up yet, because my feet still seem to be on Terra-Firma.

Have a wonderful weekend

Friday 55 Flash Fiction is brought to you by G-man (Mr Knowitall). The idea is you write a story in exactly 55 words. If you want to take part pop over and let G-man know when you've posted your 55..

HERBIE EGGS...

Those of you who have visited me before may recall my post about my garden. I live in a bungalow that fits in the corner of the land , therefore I have 5 separate gardens surrounding it to tend, (this is a royal 'we', as Math has to do the majority now). Recently Math and I decided that we wanted to change the Japanese garden into a herb garden. I use herbs most days in my cooking. This is not the responsibility of Jamie Oliver or Nigella rather that herbs enrich all meals, turning a simple supper dish into a Cordon-Bleu Banquet.

They have so many other uses, medical, perfume, beverages etc. Dried are OK, but you can't beat the flavours and aromas from chopping fresh herbs, and then sprinkling them in your food - or in your bath - or sipping herb teas .

I started to grow several herbs from seed and some I bought as 'plugs' from The Herb Garden at Hardstoft. This devine place is very close to where we live. Lynne Raynor the owner is an absolute gem, and is very willing to share her wide knowledge (even the Lavender cake recipe they served in their cafe).
She recommended I grew Moroccan mint for making mint tea. My blogging pal Krimo/Cream started me off enjoying this drink, after reading his post about the harrowing trail he endured in search of enjoying a refreshing mint tea. I thought, "I've got to try some of that!"
I even bought a 'cosmos atrosanguineus chocolate plant', so that I can sniff the flower which smells of sweet dark chocolate, in order to help me resist that chocolate bar lurking behind the cheese in the fridge. Its still shouting out my name!
I hate to brag , yet I have to say that in my pots and trays, growing extremely well are:

Golden Oregano
Oregano
Golden sage
Green sage
French tarragon
Golden Thyme
Thyme
Rosemary
Bay
Marjoram
Variety of Mints
Greek basil
Sweet basil
Flat leave parsley
Curly leaf parsley
Chives
Coriander
Dill
Lavender
Sorrel
Fennel
Lovage
Chervil
Purple basil
French parsley
Tea Tree.
Etc...............

Didn't I do well? The only problem is finding a slot in Maths life when he can start building /creating the Herb Garden. He thinks he will have to wait until after my operation, when he will be having time off from work to care for me. Unfortunately a considerable amount of the herbs are annual, so we will have to re-plant those next spring.
Nevertheless, I'm thoroughly enjoying snipping the herbs from their pots at the moment.
Tonight we are having organic salmon, with peppers and tomatoes stuffed with goats cheese, basil parsley and chives. I will also pan fry cherry tomatoes, with apple and basil served on the side.

Now the 'piece de resistance', I'm going to have my own chucks here. To ease our disappointment of having to delay starting our smallholding in Lincolnshire, Math has told me that I can have them as an early birthday present. Have you heard of the Omlet, Eglu cube? Its a really funky hen house, easy to clean and you can move it around your garden .

It will hold up to 10 hens, but I'm going to start with just 3 rescued battery hens. I know it my seems sad , but I am so excited about having my own chucks. Scrambled eggs anyone????
